Extend Filesystem /u01 on an Exadata ComputeNode

Do you know the problem: an Exadata does not have enough space in filesystem /u01? The Exadata has the locale storage and you can increase /u01.

Steps:

1. Check filesystem and associated volume:

[root@myexadb01]# df -h

Filesystem                      Size    Used    Avail    Use%    Mounted on
/dev/mapper/VGExaDb-LVDbSys1     30G    23G    5.7G    80%    /
tmpfs                           757G    4.0K    757G    1%    /dev/shm
/dev/sda1                       488M    48M    405M    11%    /boot
/dev/mapper/VGExaDb-LVDbOra1    158G    107G    43G    72%    /u01

Check the free space in the volume group:

[root@myexadb01]# pvs
PV         VG        Fmt    Attr    PSize    PFree
/dev/sda2    VGExaDb   lvm2   a—u     1.63t    1.38t

Check the logical Volume /dev/mapper/VGExaDb-LVDbOra1:

[root@myexadb01]# lvdisplay /dev/mapper/VGExaDb-LVDbOra1

 --- Logical volume ---
 LV Path /dev/VGExaDb/LVDbOra1
 LV Name LVDbOra1
 VG Name VGExaDb
 LV UUID zAM61I-ocbd-fbGo-mmsL-mJcq-eVix-MufqZr
 LV Write Access read/write
LV Creation host, time localhost, 2015-07-10 19:54:11 +0200
 LV Status available
 # open 1
 LV Size 160.00 GiB
 Current LE 40960
 Segments 2
 Allocation inherit
 Read ahead sectors auto
 - currently set to 256
 Block device 251:3

Resize the Logical Volume – add 40 GB:

[root@myexadb01]# lvresize -L +40G /dev/VGExaDb/LVDbOra1

 ...
 Logical volume LVDbOra1 successfully resized.

Resize the Filesystem /u01:

[root@myexadb01]# resize2fs /dev/mapper/VGExaDb-LVDbOra1

Check /u01:

[root@myexadb01 ~]# df -h

Filesystem                     Size    Used    Avail    Use%    Mounted on
/dev/mapper/VGExaDb-LVDbSys1     30G    23G    5.7G    80%    /
tmpfs                           757G    4.0K    757G    1%    /dev/shm
/dev/sda1                       488M     48M    405M    11%    /boot
/dev/mapper/VGExaDb-LVDbOra1    197G    107G    81G    58%     /u01
